Emil Sitka ~

The Fourth Stooge

"The most important actor in most Stooges films, besides the Stooges themselves, was the sharp-nosed, wide-eyed Emil Sitka... His presence was such a mainstay of the operation that many thought of him as an undeclared 'fourth Stooge.'"

                                       -Moe Feinberg, Larry Fine's brother

Films of Emil Sitka: SILLY BILLY (1948)
by Saxon E. Sitka

After one acting job away from the short subjects department at Columbia, Emil was back. In his twenty-third role there, Emil found himself working in the first of two comedies made at the studio that starred Billie Burke.
Billie Burke began appearing in films in 1914, before the advent of sound. Over the years, she worked with many well-known stars such as Cary Grant, Hedda Hopper, Arther Lake, Lionel Barrymore, Wallace Beery, John Barrymore, and Jean Harlow. She is best remembered now for her role as "Glinda, the Good Witch of the North" in THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939) with Judy Garland.
About Billie Burke, Emil said, "In person, you'd think she was a little grandmother who was sympathetic to everything that was around her. She used to knit on the set. But when the cameras turned on, she was totally opposite. She sparked out with that charm and charisma of hers."
